Korthi, Andros, and beaches

Korthi in Andros is a fantastic place, where the turquoise waters and nature will amaze you. The traditional element of the village makes it an excellent choice for relaxation and tranquility. At the same time, however, Korthi also offers many entertainment and food options, such as Lithodromi. Moreover, Korthi in Andros is the center of tourism and business in the area. Whether you want to “escape” from the hectic pace of everyday life or have fun, Korthi is an excellent choice. Korthi also has three beautiful beaches, Mylos, Agia Ekaterini and of course the famous ” tis Grias to Pidima”. Finally, some old traditional paths lead to picturesque dovecotes.

The beach of Milos also has a Wind-Surfing club where you will have the opportunity to learn how to tame the waves and cross the sea. On the other hand, the beach of Vitzi-Agia Ekaterini with its wonderful characteristic waters will offer you wonderful moments of relaxation and fun. It takes its name from the beautiful little church above it. Finally, the characteristic beach of the area, Tis Grias to Pidima will sure be unforgettable, because of the rock that is nailed to the sandy beach. Getting to it can be tricky, but when you get there you will definitely be compensated. Its wonderful waters will cool you down and the view from above will take your breath away.

The beautiful villages

Worth a visit when you find yourself in Korthi Bay is Dipotamata, with its incredible watermills, in an area where nature enchants with its incredible images and which has been transformed into a wonderful museum of hydroelectric power. Near the bay is the beautiful village of Kaparia where you can see the traditional dovecotes and watermills, but also the stone houses from the previous century. Finally, Gianniseo and Lardia which are full of old stone bridges and stone houses, beautiful natural springs, and lush green plane trees will definitely be unforgettable.

In the impressive Korthi, you find other villages too such as Chones, Alamania and the village Syneti, where you will find the amazing gorge of the area. This is exactly what makes Andros so special. The combination of colors and natural wonders. Finally, Kochilo is a place you definitely shouldn’t pass by during your visit to Korthi and Lithodomi. In Kochilo you will find the Venetian Pano Kastro or Kastro Faneromeni.

Monasteries and churches

Apart from the wonderful sea and the beautiful natural landscapes, Korthi in Andros has many monasteries and churches that will impress you. The Monastery of Tromarchia (Panagia Tromarchiani) may not be in operation anymore but it is very well preserved and worth a visit. You will find it on a steep slope where you will be also able to enjoy the magnificent view. Moreover, you can find hidden gems in the church, such as the marble inscriptions and the wooden panel.

Korthi of Andros is full of symbols of Orthodoxy and well-preserved monasteries. Magnificent monasteries such as the Monastery of Alinos above Aidonia, the Monastery of Fletron on Rachi, and the Agia Moni near the sea will impress you. In addition, worthy of mention are other beautiful churches such as Agia Triada in Korthi, where the first pre-revolutionary school in Andros operated, filled with manuscripts from that era, and Agios Nikolaos, one of the three parish churches of Ano Korthi, whose construction dates back to the second half of the 12th century. Finally, Agios Ioannis o Theologos is the oldest church on the island and dates between the 5th and 8th century. On its roof, miraculously, a cypress tree grows.
